This half-day course will cover the basics of meditation and some essentials of how it works. There will be practical teachings for peaceful daily living and three different guided meditations (one per session).
Questions to be addressed include:
• What is meditation?
• What is the suggested posture for meditation and why?
• What are the different types of meditation?
• When and where should I meditate?
• What are the benefits of meditation?
• What are the essential steps for my personal practice?
This class is open to everyone and requires no previous experience. It is not required to sit on a cushion – both chairs and cushions will be provided.

Please arrive a few minutes early before the class begins.
Tea and light snacks will be provided at breaks. Lunch is not included.

Located on Blanshard between Broughton and Courtney, just next to the Central Library with the parking garage underneath. Close to bus lines on Fort and Douglas.
Bike Parking Information: There are 4 bike racks in the adjoining plaza area (near the library entrance) and 2 bike racks on the first garage level near the ticket booths (walk your bike down the garage ramp.)

We are near 2 City Parking Garages and the City On Street Parking rates are shown on the map below. Both are free after 6 pm and on Sundays. The first hour in the Parking Garages are free. Free on-street parking is available for 1-2 hours on most of the unmarked streets (You only have to walk a couple of blocks). There are also Robbins and City run surface lots nearby with posted costs.
Payment in Advance will be available through noon on March 31 or when registration reaches 30, whichever comes first. Payment in Advance guarantees you a place and speeds up the process at the door.
Julia Anderson is the Education Program Coordinator for our Centre and an experienced teacher of dharma. She is known for the organization and clarity of her teachings. The Introduction to Meditation is one of her very favorite classes to conduct.
Do I have to be a Buddhist to attend?
No. All are welcome. Buddhists respect all people and are happy to help anyone regardless of whether they subscribe to another faith, or to none.
Do I need to have experience in meditation or Buddhism to attend this day course?
No. All you need is the wish to improve yourself and the quality of your life. The practice you will be learning will allow you to use the power of your imagination to bring healing to yourself and the world.
What do I need to bring to class?
Nothing in particular; however, if you wish to take notes bring a pen and notepad.
How should I dress for class?
No special clothing is required. We recommend wearing something comfortable.
Is food included?
Light snacks will be provided at the first break. Lunch is not included. There are several restaurants in the neighbourhood you can walk to when the class is finished.
I am not ready to commit, can I pay at the door?
Yes. The cost will be $25. You may pay by cash, credit card or a cheque made out to Bodhichitta Buddhist Centre. (Sorry, we cannot process debit cards)
